Steve & Christine celebrate their 50th year holiday on the Norfolk Broads

Barnes Brinkcraft customers Steve & Christine have embarked on their 50th holiday on the Norfolk Broads with a trip onboard one of their favourite cruisers ‘Brinks Omega‘.

As a thank you to the couple for their years of continued loyalty, the Directors have gifted them this year’s holiday with a presentation made on their arrival on Tuesday.

Director, Daniel Thwaites said “we are so pleased that Steve & Christine have chosen to return to us each year for their holiday. They know which boats they like, and will often holiday on the same boat for up to 10 years.  They really are customers turned friends, and we look forward to seeing them return to the yard every summer.’

Steve from Essex, first started holidaying on the Norfolk Broads as a teenager after a relative moved to Lammas, near Buxton.  His first trip to the area was with a friend in a wooden boat which they rented from a boatyard in Horning. Since then he has continued to return year on year, firstly with friends and then with his wife Christine who has been holidaying on the Broads almost as long, since 1974.

Christine & Steve had their honeymoon on the Broads and then continued to take holidays after having their son, enjoying many happy holidays throughout his  childhood and beyond.

Have you had a long love affair with the Norfolk Broads? or have you been coming to Norfolk for as long as Steve or Christine, or even longer?  Did you get engaged or even married on the Broads? We’d love to hear your stories and see your old holiday photographs – please email to

Spring 2018 Newsletter

barneshead3.pngWelcome to our Spring Newsletter, our first of the 2018 season.

We’ve had a busy winter building another four of our Brinks Serenades, along with an extensive maintenance programme for the rest of the fleet, the self catering properties & the day boats.

Work has almost finished on Riverside Marina where we have installed new pontoons with water and electricity, and we now have additional car parking which will provide much needed space on busy turnaround days and for boats looking to visit Wroxham during the week.

The first week of the season coincided with the ‘Beast from the East’ making an appearance, but we still had some customers eager to get out and enjoy their time on the Broads.  Thank you to Dave B who provided this photograph from his recent holiday.

Easter is early this year, just two weeks away but there is still time to book a cruiser or one of our self catering holiday homes to enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend or the school holidays – we do have a couple of ‘Offers’ on during this period.

With this in mind, we have added a new ‘tab’ to our website menu to help you with planning your holiday before you arrive.

In previous years we added an interactive map which is still available to use and which we are constantly adding to and updating.  In addition to this we have also added a ‘distance calculator’ to help you work out how long your trips will take, a suggested route for both a short break and weekly holiday.  We hope that you will find these ‘tools’ useful.

Press Release – Royalls Boatyard

10th January 2017

Barnes Brinkcraft (Barnes Marine Units Ltd) of Wroxham have today announced that they have bought neighbouring boatyard Royalls and 9 hire craft, after the retirement of Nigel and Sara Royall at the end of last season.

Director Daniel Thwaites said “buying Royalls means that we will have more room to increase our fleet and servicing facilities, and with the trend towards more UK tourists opting to holiday in this country and overseas tourists being lured by the favourable exchange rates, this is the right time for us to expand.”

Barnes Brinkcraft will then operate a fleet of 86 boats from their base at Wroxham including the 9 acquired from Royalls.  Plans for the 2017 season include adding 5 new built boats to the fleet and 3, new three bedroomed holidays homes overlooking their private marina.
