The season of mists & mellow fruitfulness shows the Norfolk Broads at their best …

It won’t be long before the children are back to school and there are fewer people on the Broads it is then the rivers take on a very different pace of life as everything becomes more calm.

There is something magical about autumn holidays on the Broads, finding a quiet mooring is easier, the village pubs are less crowded and people who love the area for its sheer tranquility and beautiful sunsets tend to take their holidays.

Malthouse Broad - Ranworth at sunsetTo appreciate the area’s natural beauty we advise people to drop the mud weight and moor in the middle of a Broad, to hear the birds saying goodnight and hear the rhythmic wing beats of geese in flight.  Or to find a mooring far away from the villages and simply relax in total peace and quiet.

Fishermen appreciate this period, as there are fewer boats to disturb them; and bird spotters can roam along the banks in silence looking for rare species like the bittern and marsh harriers

Sunset on the River Bure

If you have never had a Norfolk Broads boating holiday before, this is not a problem – full instruction is given when you collect your boat from our yard and we can even give you a suggested route to take in the nature reserves and tell you where you can moor easily on your first night. Take a look at these cruiser suggestions for ‘first timers’  Sonnet, Brink of Joy, Brinks Jazz, Brink of Peace or Moorhen.

If a boating holiday is just not your thing, take a look at our Norfolk Broads Self Catering Accommodation, all with fantastic views over the river and with the added bonus of a free day boat to can choose to explore the area by river or road.

To discuss your autumn break or for us to answer any queries you may have, phone our booking office on 01603 782625.

Daisy Broad Lodges make the perfect setting for a Christmas or New Year break

If you are thinking of doing something different this year for Christmas or New Year, now is the best time to book your winter break on the Broads as we are offering a MASSIVE 30% discount on our brochure prices*.

Daisy Broad is a small and fairly unknown broad right in the middle of Wroxham, yet peaceful and packed with atmosphere.  Indeed, this is one of the best fishing areas in the winter as small fish seek refuge from the colder waters of the main river and the bigger predators follow them.

Daisy Broad waterside lodge

Great place for Christmas: Daisy Broad waterside lodge

The Broads take on a near ghostly atmosphere in winter with Coot calling from the fringes and big pike breaking the surface searching for the evening meal.

All of our lodges are named after birds you will almost certainly see while staying here. Coot, Grebe and Heron are tucked away to one side of the Broad whilst Mallard overlooks the river Bure and has a lawned garden ideal for fishing for that monster pike.

The main living areas are on the first floor giving excellent views over the water and are perfect for family breaks. All lodges can sleep eight to ten people.

Christmas & New Year  is magical on the Norfolk Broads – and you are assured of a warm welcome from the team at Barnes Brinkcraft

All self catering properties are fully equipped, there is ample parking and the lodges are centrally heated – and that is included in the price.

See our main web pages for more details on all our holidays, but if you would like to talk to a member of our team phone, Margaret on 01603 782625 who will be happy to help.

* Please note that discounts have been applied to our on-line rates to assist with the booking procedure.

Ahoy Shipmates! New Treasure Hunt for Day Boats on the Norfolk Broads

Today, Wednesday 1st August ’12, we are launching our new river based Treasure Hunt from Wroxham to Coltishall along the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads – search for clues, test your general knowledge of the riverbank, and keep the children entertained while enjoying a few hours out on the Broads.

Follow the clues along the River Bure

The 25 ‘clue based’ Treasure Hunt is based on safety, nature and boating in general.  The return trip to Coltishall takes between three and four hours, allowing time to moor up for a picnic, pub lunch or just to stretch your legs.

This is a beautiful stretch of river, the water quality is very good which encourages wildlife and makes it an ideal for spotting Otters and even the elusive Kingfisher.  It also tends to be a bit quieter with river traffic as many of the larger cruisers cannot pass through the low bridge at Wroxham.

If you are hiring a Day Boat there is no additional charge to take part, simply ask at the Barnes Brinkcraft Day Boat Office when you arrive and hand your completed sheet in when you return.

Enjoy a few hours out on a day boat – fun for the whole family

Three winners will be chosen and announced on our web site at the end of September.

1st Prize – £50 Amazon Voucher, 2nd Prize – Half Day Canoe Hire for family of 4, 3rd Prize – Bottle of Bubbly (adults only!)  **

Have fun out there Shipmates – but watch out for the Pirates!

To book a Day Boat or for more information, call Barnes Brinkcraft on 01603 782625 (option 2)

**  Please note there is no cash prize alternatives!
